CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

■ANNUAL MEETING.' GENERAL MATTERS OF INTEREST The annual general meeting of the Whangarei Chamber of Commerce was held in the board room last evening. The retiring president, Mr J. E. Holmes, was in the chair and 15 members .were present. REPORT AND FINANCE. Mr Holmes delivered a short report upon the year’s working. This is reported elsewhere. The statements , of receipts and expenditure showed a credit balance of £3l 9s 9d, and assets exceeded liabilities by £56 17s 2d, The balance sheet was adopted after Mr Crane had remarked that it would not have been so healthy had the secretary charged rent for the office for the whole year.

NEW MEMBERS. The following ,wcre elected new members:—Messrs.Bray and Hannam, Whitburn, Sommerville, W. A. Cole, Keene, Bunfoot, N. A. White, Ltd., E. Middleton, and South British Insurance Company. RESIGNATIONS. ‘ Resignations were accepted with regret from Messrs L. J. Brake, and, A. M. Woods. ' ■GENERAL. The chairman explained that an address on automatic telephones, which was to have been given by Mr O’Leary, had been postponed bn account of the speaker having been called away from Whangarei. As delegate from Whangarei to the annual conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, Mr Walker presented a very full and comprehensive report of proceedings.
