(From Our Own Correspondent.) ' ANNUAL PICNIC. The meeting to make arrangements for the annual picnic and reunion was held in the public hall on Saturday night. About 20 were present. Mr AHcoek presided.* The secretary, Mr H. Walketf, presented the balance sheet, showing a credit balance of a little over £lO., It. was decided tp hold the I■•- v * ■ picnic on Tuesday, December 31st, and that dale is to be advertised in the “Northern Advocate.’’ Practically the same prograriune as last year is to be carried out, with the same officials. Mr H. Harvey was appointed to carry out the secretarial duties. SCHOOL JUBILEE. Mr T. O’Carroll, chairman of the school committee, has arranged for a meeting to .be held next Monday night to consoler ways and means to cele- 1 brate the fiftieth birthday of the local school. It is hoped that all old pupjls, J and anyone interested, will be present' on that occasion, so that a. comprehensive programme can be. arranged. PERSONAL,' Mr and Mrs Bailey and family arrived in the district last week and have taken up their residence among j us. Mr Bailey intends to carry on thb' butchery business recently relinquished by*Mr P. W. Gillingham. Maungakaramea was well represented among the prize-winners at the Whangarei High School this year, Gwen Gillingham winning first prize in maths, and science in form IVJJ, and getting second for English and French, while Marjorie Gillingham, in the same form, was first in English and French, and first in commercial work. Henry,Wenzlick, in form 2B in the Junior High School, won first prize for woodwork. Mr W.*H. Gillingham and his eldest son Bert left by the express this morning to spend the week-eiuT in ‘Auckland. '
