“JOURNEY’S END”
ROYALTY ATTENDS PLAY.
MANUSCRIPT REALISES £ISOO,

The King, the Queen and the Duke and Duchess of York paid a surprise visit of the play “Journey’s End” tonight. This is the King’s fourth visit to the theatre this week. He sent for Mr R. 0, Sherriff, the author of the book from which the play was adapted, after the second act and said he found the play most interesting and was enjoying it very much. He questioned Mr Sherriff about the production of the play abroad, particularly its treatment Hy German producers.
Mr Sherriff was earlier present at the League-of Nations dinner at the Guildhalll, where the manuscript of “Journey’s End” wa<T auctioned Sir James Barry began the bidding at £fiOO. The Lord Mayor, Sir P. Waterlow, bid £I2OO, and tho manuscript was knocked down for £ISOO to Sir Walter Lawrence, who is a keen supporter of the League of Nation. He announced that he had bought the manuseript to bo preserved for the nation
The auctioneer disclosed that the entire “Journey’s End” Company had offered a week’s salary for the manuscript, but had to be told that it was not enough.
