“The new forms for licenses ask for applicants' ages and that is how we arc getting them, “it is most unwise to grant a driver’s license to a man in his 70th year,” stated, Mr. W, Hayward at a meeting of the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association.

Mr .Hayward was referring to an application from. James McEwan, a blacksmith, of Gore, for license sto train and drive. It was stated that the applicant was in his 70th year. One member stated that McEwan had bred Cathedral Chimes.

The secretary, in reply to a question, stated that the applcant was granted a driver’s license last year, and Mr Hayward added that it 'was only by the new application forms that applicants’ ages were being ascertained.

A trainer’s license only was granted bv the board..
