WATERSIDERS’ WAGES

RECENT RULING UNPOPULAR,

SPECIAL INQUIRY SOUGHT,

(Par Press Association.—Copyright.)

DUNEDIN, This Day.

The Dunedin waterside workers passed a resolutibn protesting against the decision of Mr. Justice Blair, while acting on the Arbitration Court in the absence of Mr. Justice Fraser, in refusing to grant an increase of wages to

the watersiders, and against the action of Judge Blair in not following the principles laid down by Justice Frazer, in 1924, in fixing the rates of pay for work performed on the waterfront.

If this fixation method had been adopted the Court would have been forced to give an increase.

In view of the above the union urges the Government to institute a special inquiry into the wages and conditions of watersiders throughout New Zealand.
