WORTHY CAREER

LATE MR J. A. ROBB,

GOVERNMENT'S BEST ASSET.

(Received 8.22 a.m.)

VANCOUVER, November 13,

There is widespread mourning in Canada for the late Mr J, A. Robb, Minister of Finance. No one in Can* ada's public life enjoyed quite the same popularity. Ho was a Liberal and was the Government’s greatest personal asset. He sat in Parliament for 20 years and was never defeated at the polls. He had reduced the Budget speech to 40 minutes, whereas it used to be a six hours' effort. He was so vigorously honest that he stood in a class by himself. No one ever had a harsh thing to say about him.

The late Mr James Alexander Robb was born at Huntingdon, Quebec, in August, 1859, of Scottish parents. He was educated at the Huntingdon Academy, and was a. flour miller by trade. He had been a member of the Canadian Parliament since 1908. Mr Robb was Minister of Trade and Commerce, 1921-23; Minister of Immigration, and Acting-Minister of Finance, 1923-25, and Minister of Finance since 1926. He was twice married, his first wife having died in 1902.
