DROWNED IN BATHS

UNFORTUNATE CIRCUMSTANCE,

(Per Press Association. —Copyright.)

WELLINGTON, This Day

An inquiry was held into the death of Patrick Leo Fox, aged five years,

who was found drowned on August 12

in the Wellington College baths. John Harris, a boarder at the college, said he saw a very small boy in the baths crying, and on being questioned the boy said his playmate, while running along the side of the baths, had fallen in the water. After some little time the body was recovered and artificial respiration applied, but there were no signs of life.

The Coroner, Mr J. 8. Barlon, S.M., said there was no laxity regarding the fencing around the baths and it was very unfortunate that the boy’s adventurous instincts should have had such tragic results. A verdict that deceased had been accidentally drowned was returned.
