BOWSER LIGHTS

COMPULSION WITHDRAWN. The Legal and Finance Committee of the Whangarei Borough Council recommended at last night’s meeting that no lights be required on petrol pumps and that -the agreement bo altered accordingly. The recommendation was the result of representations to the council. It was stated that only the compulsory aspect of illumination was being taken away, and proprietors could light pumps if they wdshed.

The Mayor stated that the question had been thoroughly gone into and ho could not vote for retention of the lights, as there wms no more danger than from telegraph poles. Neither would there be risk from free benzine if a pump were knocked over, and the insurances would not be affected.

The recommendation was adopted.
