SOUTH AFRICAN ELECTIONS
POLLING VEiRY HEAVY,
TREND AGAINST LABOUR

Polling- was unexpectedly heavy throughout the country. Early urban results largely increased the South African Party majorities. Mr Duncan was re-elected, while a young advocate named Lawrence captured Salt River, a Cape railway works constituency, from Laibour. .-■■ . Colonel Creswell was returned, Mr T. Boyd oil, Minister of Labour, was defeated.
At midnight the- South. African Party had secured 25 seats, the Nationalists two and Labour three, including- one Creswellite.
Labour has lost three .seats to th'e South African Party, notably Turffoutorn, where Mr Sturrock, a. prominent industrialist, was returned, a mil the South African Party regained Langlaagte, where Air Christie, chairman of. the Labour Council was defeated.
