WHANGAREI HIGH SCHOOL

BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEET. The adjourned meeting of the Whangarei High School Board of Governors was held last evening. There were present: Mr H, 0. Rishworth (chairman), Mrs Donaldson and Messrs Carruth, Clarke and McLean. Apologies were received from Mrs Briggs and Messrs Crawford and Nelson,

The Education Department advised that a decision regarding the matter of heating the school buildings would be forthcoming in a few days.

The Education Department replied to the Board’s request in reference to the provision of a caretaker’s cottage stating that a grant of £SOO would be considered, on terms of repayment by instalments of £SO per annum.

Mr R. G. Finch was instructed to proceed with the laying down of two football fields as per plan. Authority was given for laying down two courts in Laykold.

The Minister of Education was invited to visit Whangarei, when several important matters would be placed before him. It was hoped he could make his visit before Parliament assembled. Mr Albert Dobson, forwarded a cheque for £0 10s, proceeds from concert. Mr Dobson was thanked for his action, and the secretary was instructed to apply for a subsidy on ‘the contribution. Misses Monerieff and Blakie tendered their resignations, having received appointments to other .schools. It was resolved that the Department be asked <to consider applications for assistance towards the cost of conveying pupils to and from school. At present the board has no power to make any contribution. It was decided to place the board’s proposal for the erection of a headmaster’s residence before 'the Minister on his visit. Accounts totalling £llsl were passed for payment.
