ELECTRICIANS CONFER

POWER SUPPLY INCREASES. GREATER BENEFITS SHORTLY. (Per Press Association. —Copyright.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The fifth annual conference of the Electric Supply Authority Engineers’ Association opened yesterday, the president, Mr Toogood, being in the chair. Among the visitors present were Air F. T. Kissel, Public Works Department; Dr. Barnett, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research; Messrs Plank, Post and Telegraph Department; Wyles, Railways Department; and Gilmore, Fire Underwriters’ Association. When discussing the- progress of electrical, reticulation, Mr Toogood expressed the belief that in the near future a better system of charging for electricity -should be brought about. Power schemes, in some instances, had cost more than had been hoped and to a certain extent had been experimental, but the various authorities had brought it he benefits of electricity into rural areas even to a greater extent than the most sanguine had ever anticipated. He believed, however, that they had not started on what might be called the second phase, of the work. When it. was stimnldled, the demand would bring about reduced charges and greater benefits both to fhe supplier and consumer. He indicated the lines along which, an attempt might lie made to reduce the cost ,tu consumers and, at the same time, increase business.
