WEDDINGS. \ ' 0 ’CONNOR UNDERWOOD. The marriage was quietly solemnised on Thursday, March 7, .at St. Francis Xavier’s Church, of Emily Merinda, daughter of Mrs Underwood and thy late Mr Underwood, of Whangarei, to Patrick J. O’Connor, of Pio Pio, King Country. The Rev. Father Herring officiated. The ibride was given away by her brother, Mr Walter Underwood, of To Kami, and wore a becoming frock ef shell pink crepe de chine and radiium lace, with diamante buckle. Willi this was w r orn a georgette hat to tone, and champagne shoes and stockings. Her beautiful bouquet was conijpo'scd of pink and cream asters, and tiger lilies, with maidenhair fern and asparagus, with streamers of cream tulle and pink ribbon. The bridesmaid, Miss Kathleen Underwood, sister of the bride, wore golden beige crepe de chine, with gold lace and a georgette hat, and champagne shoes and stockings. She carried a tasteful bouquet of autumntinted flowers and asparagus, with

streamers to tone. The little flower-girl, Sybil Underwood, a niece of the bride, was daintily frocked in pink frilled net over silk, with head-dress of pink tulle and rosebud trimming. She car ried a basket of pale pink and blue asters and asparagus, with tulle bow. Mr Herbert Underwood, brother of the bride, carried out the duties of best man.

After the ceremony, Mrs Underwood entertained her guests at the Coronation Tea Rooms, She was becomingly gowned in vieux rose repp, with black hat, and black silk coat, and carried a handsome bouquet of mauve and purple asters. The rooms were tastefully arranged with shades of mauve and pink. A dainty repast was served. Later, Mr and Mrs O’Connor left by the "express for their future home In the south. The bride, travelled in a smart velour coat with fur collar, over a rose beige repp frock, with small hat to tone.

MAXWELL-MARTIN. St. Mark’s Church, Auckland, was the ‘ scene of the wedding on Wednesday of Miss Gwyndoline Martin, younger daughter of the late Mrs S, L. Martin, I of Auckland, to Mr Alfred D. Maxwell, third son of Mrs M. A, Maxwell and the late Mr C, W. Maxwell, of Whangarei. The Rev G. C. Cruickshank, formerly vicar of Wh'angarei, performed the ceremony. The bride, who was given away by her brother-in-law, Mr H. M. Alder, wore a frock of ivory satin and silk net. The tight-fitting satin bodice was covered with cream silk lace and the flared skirt of silk frilled not showed the -uneven hemline. Her veil of Honiton lace formed a train and was arranged on the head with a coronet of orange blossom. She carried a shower bouquet of white earnations and pale-pink chrysanthemums. In attendance as matron of honour was the bride’s sister, Mrs 11, M. Alder. She wore a frock of apricot georgette with aeeordeon-pleatcd frills of crepe do chine on the skirt ami a picture hat with a floral crown and brim of sap-phire-blue tulle. A bouquet of autumnshaded chrysanthemums was carried. GATES—PULLER. A pretty wedding was celebrated at the Anglican Church, Russell, on Thursday, March 7. The bride was Miss Hazel Fuller, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs A. E, Fuller, of Russell, and the bridegroom. Mr W. Cates, fourth son of Mr and Mrs G. Cates, of Te Kopuru. Rev. Butler was the officiating minister. The bride was charmingly attired in a heavy white satin superbe frock, pearls and rich lace composing the trimming note, with an attractive loose cape exquisitely arranged with centre panel of lace, anil outlined in delicate pearls and hemstitching. She wore a beautiful hand embroidered tulle veil artistically arranged with a wreath of orange blossom. '

The veil, which formed a train, was held by two little flower girls, Joan Taylor, niece of the bride, and Nita Cates, niece of the bridegroom, who were dressed in dainty little frocks of imauve and green rayon silk respeetivehy. Each carried a basket of beautiful [flowers. The two bridesmaids wore Miss Pearl Turner, of Auckland, and Miss Effie Richards, Auckland. The former wore a coral pink georgette and the latter turquoise blue- georgette.

Mr George Cates, brother of the bridegroom, was best man, and Mr Norman Fuller, brother of the bride, was groomsman. After the ceremony the bridal party adjourned to the Russell Town Hail, where .125 guests sat down to the wedding breakfast. The bride's mother received her guests in a frock of vieux rose silk imoracain, trimmed with fawn, with hat to tone. The bridegroom's present to the bride was a Chevrolet car, in which they will tour the north, after spending a few weeks at Rotorua.

KITCHEN EVENING. HISS NOTION HONOURED, A most enjoyable and successful evening, given for Miss Coral Notion, in honour of her approaching marriage to Mr T. Smith, eventuated on Wednesday evening. Mrs Hunter Harris and Mrs .1. Spark were joint hostesses, and the function was held at the residence of the latter. Valley Road, Hikurangi. About 24 guests were present and games and musical

items helped to vfill the evening very pleasantly. Miss Notion was the recipient of a splendid array .of gifts. A dainty sit-down supper was served during the evening, and a pleasant gathering concluded in the early hours of the morning. ■

NURSES' DANCE. MATRON SWAYNE WELCOMED. A charming dance was heldat the Nurses' Home on Thursdaynight., The occasion was, also a welcome to Matron Swayne. Guests attended ■ from all parts of the district, including more lady visitors than is usually the case. The arrangements were perfect, and- a thoroughly enjoyable time was- spent by all.

Miss Swayne received the guests in a becoming dress of . black georgette, with scarlet shawl.
