UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE EXAM
; AN EXPLANATION. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The N.Z. University has issued the following: The message - .from Napier, containing a, statement by Mr Foster (headmaster of Napier Boys’ High School), .concerning the marking of papers in the University Entrance Examination, makes it clear that the masters of some secondary schools have inferred .that the publication of supplementary successful candidates is an indication, that the marking, of papers has not been carefully and thoroughly done. . This. inference is quite illogical and unjustified. The University Council,. at its last meeting, decided that the results of the examination should be reviewed with a view to passing any candidate who, having failed through falling short of minimum requirements in some subjects, has yet given evidence of special ability in a group of cognate subjects. The supplementary list dealt with these cases, and these'- cases only.
