CHILD ENDOWMENT
ADVERSE REPORT. ■COLOSSAL COST INVOLVED. (Australian Press Association.) (Received 9,40 a.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. The Federal scheme of child endowment has boon rejected by the Royal Commission, which has taken evidence in all the states for many months. The majority report against the scheme declares that advocates of family assistance have not proved the fact that wages are insufficient, while the allowance of ten shillings per week for all dependent children under 14 years of age would require an expenditure of £50,000,000 yearly. This would ■make the Federal income tax five and a half times greater than at present, causing disastrous reactions, as well as removing from parents financial responsibility for their children, and weakening parental responsibility.
