BYRD EXPEDITION
MR BROPHY’S RESIGNATION. . COMMANDER’S TRIBUTE. DUNEDIN, Tuesday. Commander Richard Byrd authorised Mr Richard. Brophy to make a statement in America somewhat on the following lines: “That Mr Brophy is desirous of re-entering private business in New Zealand, and that the expedition being at its base and equipped, hia duties are ended after the conclusion of his present vacation, which ho very much deserves. At that time I wall accept his resignation from the expedition. Tlfe fact that we are so well equipped in the Antarctic; is ;dne •largely to the energy, efficiency and loyalty of Mr Brophy as business manpager .during the long and trying period of preparation in New York.” Commenting the message, Mr Brophy said he greatly appreciated the 'opportunity of taking a holiday, and that' ho intended to tour New Zealand by motor car. He would probably visit Australia, and. return to New Zealand. The City of Now York has boon delayed by bad weather on the passage from the ice barrier. She is expected to reach Port Chalmers on Friday or Saturday.
