FISH PLENTIFUL
(SPORT 'AT BAY OP ISLANDS,
(Prom Out. Own Correspondent.)
Success continues to the Sir Harry Lauder Ashing party, who are the guest's of , the New Zealand Deep Sea Angling Limited headquarters at Otihei Bay, Urupukapuka Island, for on Monday last they brought, in two more big game fish. This means that during the last four .days no fewer than eight monsters of the deep have been brought into headquarters (Otohei to tf)b rewaeq. In regard to the two bi‘g. Ash {mentioned, Mr Mathewsoh said he enjoyed the hard fight with the swordfish. Not only did it leap high out of the water on many
occasions, but it frequently walked along the top of the water on its tail in its endeavou to throw something foreign from its mouth. During the battle his rod smashed in two, and the angler had to continue to play his prize with the broken rod. Fortunately it held, and in this manner Mr Mathewson, after a long struggle, managed to bring the marlin alongside the launch/-, “ Marlin’' to be gaffed. The other game fish, which was caught by Mr C, W. Allen, of Dundee, proved to bo a maho shark. As evidence of the number of big game fish to be seen just now, it may be mentioned that while the party was trolling for bait the swordfish attacked the dummy. The weather is ideal for fishing and many anglers are out enjoying the sport. The next two months should be a good time for these denizens of the deep to be caffght, and a visit to these wonderful fishing grounds will be well worth while.
