MAUNU NEWS

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The prevailing, growth-promo ting weather conditions this season have thus far proved highly favourable, and as a result there is an abundance of green pasturage. Dairy herds are in first-class order and continue to keep up a fine yield of milk. The thrice-weekly--supply of cream, sent by lorry to the dairy factory bears convincing testimony to the fine quality of the dairy herds, and also to the excellent nature of the land. Meadow hay harvesting operations are in full swing and at present are the chief work and interest of the farming community, who so well realise the great need of storing a good supply of dry fodder for dairy stock for use during the winter season. Owing to frequent showery weather during the past week, harvest work has been much retarded, and may not be fully completed before the holidays begin, many fine hay crops were cut and had to await the return of fine weather for their ingathering. Although not improved by the unavoidable delay, none fortunately, has been spoilt. The. pressing of hay, is now generally in vogue, and it proves more easily handled, ■which is -a very great advantage in every respect. It is undoubtedly another practical evidence of the progressive nature of the district to see on almost every harvest field, during the season, -a large and busy team of men working a huge hay-press, with all necessary machinery and implements conducive to a good and speedy storing.

The most recent new residents of the district are Mr and Mrs Eobbic and family, to whom are extended kindly good washes for a happy future in their new home.

Mr F. 0. Barge, wdio this week left via the Niagara on a visit to Ini native land, takes with him hearty good will from hosts of friends, wdio wdsh him a ‘tip-top,’ enjoyable holiday and a safe return to his home and family.
