PAINTERS ' AWARD
FINDINGS OF THE COURT.
(Per Press Association—Copyright.) WELLINGTON-, This Day. The Dominion Painters ’ Award has been filed by the Arbitration Court. In a memorandum Mr Justice Frazer states: ‘‘‘The Court has settled the provisions relating to wages, ship work and exemptions, reserving the power, in the two latter cases, to amend the award on application being made for that purpose. Mr Monteith dissents from the opinion of the majority of the Court on the matter of wages. He considers that the same additional payments to outside workers should be awarded, as in the case of carpenters. In other respects, the award follows the recommendation of the Conciliation Council, which the parties agree to accept.” The award provides for 44 hours a week, a minimum rate of wages foi journeymen painters, paperhangers, glaziers, grainers, signwriters, decorators and pictoriaL sign painters, in 2s 3d per hour. The award is to operate throughout Northern Taranaki, Wellington, Nelson, Canterbury, Otago and Southland Industrial districts, but not within the Gisborne judicial district.
