The Paris correspondent of the “Daily Chronicle’’ states: “Despite Signor Mussolini’s optimistic speeches, it has been learned that the economic situation in Italy is causing anxiety. 1
Three large well-known (provincial banks have become bankrupt within a fortnight. The year’s working on the railways is unfavourable, while, despite all the propaganda campaign for increased production, the maize harvest has shown a reduction of 25 per cent, rice 9 per cent and potatoes 26 per cent.
