CHRISTMAS PARTY

AT HOEA HORA SCHOOL,

The Christinas Tree Party at the Hora Hora School was largely attended by parents and friends —in response to the invitations previously issued—for whom seating accommodation was provided by a circle of scats surrounding a splendid Christmas Tree loaded with gifts and resplendent with festoons of silver and gold tinsel, glittering glass decorations, and gay paper pom-poms. Monkoys-on-sticks, boats, dolls, whistles and other toys were to be seen in endless profusion. The room itself was decorated with multi-coloured streamers and the everpopular balloons, and the whole effect gave one the impression of a fairy grotto. Although the party was organised principally for the Infant Department, eycry pupil v of the upper school also received some favour, whilst each child in the Primers was given a paper hat, a toy, a balloon, as well as bonbons and chocolate fish.

During the afternoon was staged “Queen Christmas and Her Court/ 7 the principal parts being taken by the following:—Connie J Bethel (Queen Christmas), Hubert Carrington ('Santa Claus), Beryl Irving (Rain), Gertrude Seed (Snow), Patsy Nisbet (Holly),

Nola Goodison and Ailsa iSinclair (Christmas Bells), Johnny Nisscn and Lewis Jones (Christmas crackers), Norma Hannam (Christinas Fairy), Ann Marshall (The New Year), Audrey McKenzie (The Eastern .Star), Bertha Monkhouse and Jean Morgan (Heralds). The dresses were very dainty and the colour scheme splendidly carried out. The children acted their parts well indeed and spoke up with pleasing assurance. Miss Barker made u neat speech expressing thanks, and Mr Downard, in an able address, made a strong appeal for regular attendance in order to ‘raise the status of the school, and called for three cheers for Miss Bark-

Hr Murdoch, on behalf of the parents. heartily endorsed the remarks of the former speakers, and congratin lated the staff on their appreciated efforts for the school. Cheers were given for the staff. Mr Murdoch also presented Mavis Nixey with a beautiful Christmas Roll made of chocolate, as she produced the hidden number necessary to claim this prize.

An apology for unavoidable absence, owing to a prior engagement, was received from the Mayor ahd Airs Brake.

The function was an unqualified success, and reflected groat credit on the organiser, Miss Barker, and all those who assisted her. The capS were contributed by Airs Marshall and Airs Farrell, while Mrs Alogford, Afann’s, and others were largely responsible for providing the sweets.

At the conclusion of the party, snapshots wore taken, seasonable greetings

were exchanged, and a tired bill happy throng of children trooped out of the schpol grounds, homeward •bound.
