KIDDIES ENTERTAINED
A LODGE FUNCTION
The local branch of the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows held a Christmas Tree evening for the children of the members on Friday last in the Friendly Societies’ Kali, Alexander Street. There was a large attendance of the
local members and their wives, and also several .members and their wives from the Hikurangi Lodge, who had been’ invited for the evening. The children, to be sure, were also there in good numbers. The adults sot themselves out. to give the children a real good time, which to judge by the faces of the latter, was much appreciated. A largo Christmas tree was, set up in the centre of the hall, w(& laden, .with toys, baskets of sweets, balloon's, etc., and was illuminated with miniature electric lights; the hall being in semi-darkness a very pretty effect was produced. Pandemonium was let loose when Father 'Christmas arrived and was introduced to the assembly by the secretary, Bro. 'M. Ward, P.G. .Each child .shook hands with Father 'Christmas and was presented with a toy and sweets from the tree. Ico cream was also on the menu and it is certain that some of the children, later on in the night, wondiered why they were awiakened with a pain under their nighty. Supper was provided by the sisters, and, in the opinion of all, the evening was very enjoyable and a huge success. Bro. Forshaw, .of Hikurangi Lo,dge presided at the piano.
