REFORM’S CLAIMS. PRIME MINISTER’S OPENING. (Per Press Association. —Copyright.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Prime Minister will open the Reform Party’s election campaign in Christchurch next Wednesday. He will speak in the Municipal Concert Hall. WHAT HAS BEEN DONE. FARMERS AND WORKERS CARED FOR. OPPOSITION ANSWERED. (Per Press Association. —Copyright.) WELLINGTON, This Day. . The Hon A. D. McLeod, in an address to the electors, laid stress on the fact that the Government had provided £10,621,000 for workers’ homes in five years, besides £8,726,000 for returned soldiers, a total of £19,347,000 —unequalled in the -world in proportion to the population. This was a complete answer to Mr H. E. Holland’s accusations of want of sympathy for the workers. With regard to cheap money for farmers, he said; "Let Air Holland , cease his platitudes and point to any Labour-governed state where money for. farmers and workers has been cheaper and advanced to a greater extent than in New Zealand. The speaker further stated: "If we are to grow and expand in population and production, we must establish a firm basis of efficiency. This applies to all .alike —farmers, manufacturers and labourers.”

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Mr L. R. C. MacFarlane, Reform candidate for Hurunhi, addressed a meeting in E-angiora last night. He said he cotild -claim he was a Liberal in all things, except in regard to finance, in which he was a Conservative. There was no need for the establishment of a -State Bank. -He favoured immigration organised on a sliding seale and declared the United Party ■was composed mostly of malcontents and profiteers. His opponent, Mr George Forties, was “a decent little chap,” but so far as the United Party was concerned “had fallen in up to his neck.” The candidate was accorded a vote of thanks.

WELL RECEIVED. MR SMITH AT BALLANCE. (Per Press Association. —Copyright.) PAHIATUA, This Day. Mr 6. Harold Smithy the Reform candidate for the Pahiatua seat, opened hist campaign last night with an address at Ballaace before a large attendance, including many ladies. The candidate was accorded an excellent reception and a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence. The chairman, Mr ,T. H. Bremner, paid a very glowing tribute to the services rendered by Mr Smith to the constituency when he previously represented the electorate. UNITED LEADER’S OPENING. (Per Press Association. —Copyright.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Sir Joseph Ward, Loader of the United Party, will open tin* campaign on behalf of the party at the Auckland Town Hall on Tuesday night. He will leave for Auckland on Monday. Sir Joseph will speak in Wellington later, but the date has not yet been fixed. He also intends to speak in some of the other larger centres. GISBORNE SEAT.
