BUNKERING AT ONERAHI
CONFERENCE OF INTERESTED BODIES.
At the conference held in the Harbour Board Chambers, Whangarei, yesterday afternoon, attended by Sir Edwin Mltehelson and. Mr Brown (representing the Hikurangi Coal Company) Mr H. H. Sterling, General Manager New Zealand Hallways (with whom was associated Messrs J. K. Lowe, E. Casey, and Wid-. dop, of the Railways Department), and members of the Whangarei Harbour Board, the questions of freight, port dues and coal charges were fully discussed. Earlier in the afternoon, the Railways Department officials and members of the Whangarel Harbour Board had inspected the Onerahi wharf and the new works at Kloreroa. The Railways officials were very impressed with the potentialities of Kioreroa as a site for a bunkering port. At the conclusion of the conference it "was agreed that the Hikurangi Coal Company and the Whangarel Harbour Board should conjointly approach the slapping companies, stating the charges it was proposed to make for the various items, with a view to obtaining an undertaking from the shipping interests to bunker at Onerahi. Sir Edwin Mitoholsou assured the meeting that there was a plentiful supply of coal at Hikurangi. It. is confidently hoped that beneficial results will eventuate from the conference..
