CANTERBURY OUTBREAKS,

MT. FYFPE ENCIRCLED. VALUABLE RESERVES WIPED OUT. (Per Press Association. —Copyright.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Since Monday large bush fires have been raging on the ranges north of Kaikoura and principally in the Mt. Fyffe region. A fire started on Monday night at Long Creek and in the first valley leading from Hapuka and spread round Mt. Fyft’e. The climatic reserve above Hapuka has been destroyed, making it possible for great quantities of shingle to travel down the watercourse on to the flats.

Stock is reported to have been destroyed on Mr P. Adair's property at Black Mailer, near the main north road.

In the Puhi Valley, at Mr Fairweather's place, acres of bush have boon wiped out.

All sorts of rumours have been current in Kaikoura, but there is no confirmation of any damage to property beyond destruction of the bush.

Last night there was a strong wind at Kaikoura, and today the bush is still on fire. It is stated that the Ohau Basin and Ohau Reserve have been destroyed. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) GISBORNE, -This Day, ' Heavy rain yesterday quenched the scrub and log fires. An inspection of properties affected reveals that stock losses much less severe than expected.
