Mr B. S. Barnes, who lias been in charge of the combined schools, is lea.ving the district to take up an important position at the Warkworth District High School. , Mr Barnes, who has been deservedly popular during his stay amongst us, was entertained at a farewell social at the public hall on Thursday, when there was a record attendance of residents and a large number of visitors trom Whangareii. and Maungatapere. Dancing was carried on merrily till a late hour. During an interval, the parting guest was presented with a handsome silver shaving mug and brush and an ebony backed hair-brtish and comb. On rising to acknowledge the gifts and the kindly expressed references to himself, Mr Barnes was accorded a great ovation. His departure is much regretted by the residents, ’■•’ho are united in wishing him every success in his new sphere.
An innovation in the evening’s en-t'-rtainment was a “mystery parcel," arranged liy Mrs McCain*. Mrs Draper was the luekv final addressee.
Music for the dance was supplied t>y Messrs Tiniperley and Draper, and the duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Messrs Walker and Dent. A bonnlitnl supper provided in Kara’s 'best style added the finishing touch to a most enjoyable .and successful evening.
