VISITING MOTORISTS
CAMPING GROUND SITES. At the request of the Auckland office the secretary of the Automobile Association forwarded information to the Whangarei Borough Council last night concerning a>ny alterations <or additions to the local motorists’ camping ground. As he believed that the Parks Committee had previously discussed the matter, he suggested that something be done immediately so that by the time the motoring season approaches, Whangarei would not lack this very important asset to the town. The largo number of motorists who made use of the site last season was sufficient guarantee that additional conveniences in different forms should be placed there. It was added that practically all visitors had spoken of the excellent surroundings,. and its proximity to the main street for shopping. The only complaint seemed to be the lack of iireplaces anj running water from the borough supply. Consequently, the secretary referred the council to the suggestions forwarded «s a guide to the Parks Committee when placing ureas at the disposal of motorists next season. All information was desired in order that it could be included in a booklet: ‘‘Motorists’ Camping Grounds,” at present being compiled.
Cr E. W. Nelson moved that the subject be referred to the Parks Committee.
A suggestion was made by the Mayor. Mr L, J. Brake, that Kensington Park should be made the camping ground, as he disapproved of such small areas as that in Central Park being used by the motorists. However, when Cr Nelson stated that he thought that the council should leave the Parks Committee with an open mind to consider the matter, his •proposal was endorsed.
