Five persons were killed and 40 injured by the explosion of a bomb at the Italian Consulate building today. A later message states that nine are now dead. (Received 10.23 a.m.) BUENOS AYRES, May 23, The bomb which exploded at the Italian Consulate killed 10 people, all Italian immigrants, of whom three died instantly and seven in hospital. Four members of the Consulate and 16 immigrants were injured. A second bomb, also of tremendous power, exploded shortly after in a chemist’s shop in a crowded workingclass quarter of the city, but nobbdy was injured, due to a defect in the bomb which prevented its full force being exerted. -Squads of detectives rushed to the Consulate, where they were utterly mystified as to the identity of the perpetrators or their 'motive. Scenes of wild terror followed the outrages.
