A.R.C. MEETING. DELTOHTMENT WITHDRAWN. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day. Delightment was struck out of all engagements at the Auckland winter meeting, at 4.15 p.m. yesterday. NOTES AND COMMENTS, (By “Spotter.”) Maunga is reported to have looked bright and well at Wanganui but the son of ' Mountain Knight had his chance spoilt through the saddle slipping. Competent Judges aver that otherwise lie would have troubled the winner. Whilst on the subject of 'Mountain Knight’s progeny it would seem that they are better over the battens and across country than on the flat. Mount Marta’s recent victory at Wanganui confirms this.

According to Geo. Jones, Commendation is to join the active brigade ! at Awapuni this week. Perle de Leon is fast improving and he is expected to make a bold showing at the Ellcrslic fixture.

Wanganui and Ilawera performances have gained for Brigadier Rill (many friends for the Great 'Northern [Steeplechase and it 'will be interesting (to note how Mr Ball’s successor to JOmaha will fare -when pitted against real stayers in fit condition. The hill at Ellerslie may bother Mr Bull’s nominee. Sunny Morn and Kildeer (Jervois Handicap), Just Quietly and Adjuster (Penrose Hurdles), Fiery Lad (Hunf. [Club Hurdles), and Delightment (Members’ Handicap) comprise the local contingent weighted for the Auckland Racing Club’s winter meeting. Mr R. Russel!, the amateur rider, who capably handled Comical at Wanganui, will again be his .pilot in the Great Northerns at Ellerslie. It is stated that Russell has a corrective for the wayward tendencies of \Mr H. M. Campbell’s horse. •Comical finished a creditable fourth at the meeting mentioned. I

Shining Armour was started over the battens at Wanganui and was a sas disappointment. He brought down the favourite, Mister Gaul)), and seriously affected the chances of other horses, finally crashing into an obstacle.

Desert Lad, A. G. Murray, and R. Reed have been the principals in a by-play lately. Murray rode Desert Lad on the first day at Hawera. and but for had luck might have landed him a winner. On the second day of that fixture, when Desert Lad looked gilt-edged and hacked to extravagant

odds-on, Reed was put up in of the apprentice, just in ease ol accidents. Reed did his job right enough, but Murray came to light on a rank outsider in Monsogne to beat the favourite. Murray again was up on Desert l.ad at Wanganui on Thursday with Fee .Simple (R. Reed) from the same stable a good deal belter backed. Murray and Desert Lad received the luck of the run at the turn, where Fee Simple was disappointed. Desert laid name on to win at a price nearly six times better than his Hawera one. with Fee Simple and Reed only third. Sneh is the luck of the game, states “Vedette.”

‘Frisco Jack gave an inglorious display in the Wanganui Steeplochas ■ but may notch a cross country event when the class is not strong.

Alan McDonald will pilot Mister Gamp in the Great Northern Hurdles and if all goes well this horse will he going on with the business when most of the others are showing signs of distress.

Archibald has been accomplishing plenty of solid work in view of his engagements at Kllerslie next month and no fault can be found with hik condition. He finished second to .Wedding March in the Great Northern Hurdles .12 months ago, and it they both contest that race agaia next month, Archibald will have -exactly a stone in his favour and will certainly require it, as Wedding March is a first-class hurdler. It is reported that A. H. Burt will ride Archibald in the Great Northern ■Huriles and Steeplechase.

Te Koroke and Tea Time are Vo- '.ii ported to be. in excellent fettle and their connections are sanguine regard- «• ing their chances at Ellerslie.

Lirnosa went sore after racing at j‘£ Awapuni, and was giver, a three > weeks’ spell. Her next on twig.- may’.', be at Otaki, :

The Wellington Racing Club has 1 made an alteration in the dates of its winter meeting, ami will race on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, !. July 11, 12 and 11. v » Ceremony has been claimed as the - name for a rising two-year-old bro- * ther to Motley and Lysander. A Thespian —.Bronze gelding of the same ;j * age will race by the name of Alloy, and a Thespian—Eulogy youngster as ! Pedestal, the last-named being- ,a •< half-brother to Eulalie and Com- • men elation. „ , .

Blimp is improving with age, , and I) he should do good service this winter. He goes well in laid ground, —and * Trentham in July should suit him :o j a nicely. As lie is a solid and com pact little chap the higher scale might not trouble him, even in a race lily the Parliamentary Handicap.

' Benzora was responsible for a rejnarkably good performance in the Borough Handicap a I Wanganui. Ho was left standing at barrier-rise and must have given the leaders a big f 'start. Ho was rushing through his . [field at the turn, and over the last JOfl - yards he was flying past horses like ~ Limited and Partaga as if they were -s anchored. He is sure to bo' in keen demand next time out. V

Mr John Hanks’ horses. FoLoaniii 1 »nd Iligliflown, are .executing most o f their work on the private fra -k at Shaftesbury, about seven Hides from . Te Aroha. Hitherto they have proved ;* good winter horses, and generally they *' have done well when trained by their T •wner. Both horses should acquit themselves creditably at KMerslb’ next J. month. Thanks and Flitiare not . being worked for winter racing, nod .■ should be benefited by the spell.

At the June injecting I*2 months ago Sir Archie finished third in the Members’ Handicap to King Ln and Hoariri. This horse lias developed Improved form during the present season and is likely to win good races in the future. Sir Archie is a proved mudlark and track conditions. ate likely to favour him during the winter months.
