RUGBY UNION

MEETING OF MANAGEMENT. The weekly meeting of the Whauga:ei Rugby Union Management Committee was hold last evening. Mr A. B. Charters was voted to the chair, and presided over an attendance of Messrs W. D. J. Couaghan, J. B. Maoken, G. W. Wilding, W. Petterson and C. R. Powell. Air F. Archer, delegate of the Thursday Club, was also in attendance. Apologies for non-attendance were received from Messrs Collins, Smith and Coote.

Messrs H. E. G. Smith and A. Hayward were appointed selectors for the junior grade. One other appointment will be made later.

Messrs R. McKenzie and S. Noble, representatives of the Whangaroi Hockey Club, waited upon the meeting with regard to the allocation of gate money at Kensington Park. The system in the past had been for officials of the association and union to count heads at the hockey games, and grant a shilling for each spectator.

It was stated that some hockey players also seemed to be keen Rugby supporters especially when there was no game at the park. In future the name of the club will be written across hockey players’ passes, and the numbers checked by the gatekeepers. The Whangaroi Racing Club notified that the Rugby Union request for the hot-water service at Kensington Park had been granted.

The names of six- referees eligible to control the Whangaiei-Northom Wairoa match on Saturday, were submitted to the Northern Wairoa Union for final selection.

The Whangaroi Thursday Club applied for the re-grading of T. Frazerburst, last season a member of the Bay of Islands Rugby Union. The player appeared, and it was decided to allow him to plav for the Thursday Club in the saven-a-side tournament.

The matter of re-grading a senior player was held over until the nokt meeting, pending notification from a club as to whether or not it had a vacancy.

Royal blue was suknitted by the Thursday Club for approval. As Portland already had use of these colours, fhe matter was referred tv. the Thursday Club for reconsideration.

Onerahi Club asked whether their game against Old Boys on .Saturday was to be a replay or an exhibition game. The secretary read an excerpt from a letter to the club in which it was definitely set forth that the game' was to be replayed. It was decided to again notify the elub of the decision.

A request from (he Horn Hora Club for the use of a practice ground on Saturday was granted. Maungatapere was also granted general permission to play a junior team. Players at the park will pay for admission.

It was decided to thank the .Railways Department for arranging suitable running of trains to Hukcrenui and Manngaturotft on the date of the seven-n-side tournament.

The referee of the Hikurangi v. Horn Horn third grade game on Saturday ordered M. McKenzie, of the former team, off the field for “chipping” and using bad language. It was decided to suspend the player until such time as lie personally appeared before the union.

Prices for admission to the representative fixture on Saturday were fixed at Is for gate and Gd for the stand.

Mr W. R.‘ Tucker waited on the meeting with regard to the overcrowding of the public in the Kensington Park dressing rooms. The secretary was Instructed to go into the matter. The appointment of a captain of the representative team was left to the selector. The secretary was appointed manager of the Whangarei team.

Mr Macken suggested that the Appointment Committee should endeavour to stage the best games possible as cur-tain-raisers to the senior games on Kensington Park Xo. 1 ground. The treasurer again brought up the matter of country clubs taking*’gates. As /the clubs had already been notified on the matter, it was decided to take no further action until the next meeting. If nothing further is forthcoming by then, the matter of allotting home-and-home games will be reviewed.
