CHRISTCHURCH. Tills Dav

At a meeting ol' llie Canterbury Rugby Union a challenge was received from the Hawke’s Bay Union lor the Ranfnrlv Shield.

The challenging union intimated that it fully realised Canterbury’s difficulty regarding fixtures, but suggested September 12 as a date for the Match in Christchurch, conditional on Canterbury holding the shield ou that date. Mr S. F. Wilson: ‘‘l move we accept the challenge and pray we will be aide to play it.” The motion was earrud.

Other challenges accepted were: Wairarapa, for July 18 and Manawhernia, August 11. The chairman pointed out that South Canterbury had put in the first claim for a challenge match. It was decided to write to that union pointing out that it would lie very hard for Canterbury to fix a date prior to Julv 18.—Press Assn.
