BAND CONCERT
BIG GATHERING AT PARK.
The first open-air concert for the season by the Whangarei Municipal Silver Band was rendered in Central Park last evening, before a very large assembly. The band gave a splendid rendition of the various numbers, each item being heartily applauded. A disadvantage to the instrumentalists and the audience, however, was the running round about and shouting of the children, and if further concerts are to be given in the open-air some measure of control will have to be effected. Parents and guardifans may do much in this respect.
The programme consisted of the following numbers: —“The Elephant” (J. Ord Hume), “ Gleams of Gold” (J. A. Greenwood), “Chu Chin Chow” (F. K. Norton), “Vanguard” (R, B. Hall), “In a Persian Market” (A. W. Ketebey), “The Lightning Switch” (J. Alford) and “The Colonel’s Parade” (J. Ord Hume),
