The Moerewa branch of the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company is situated at Moerewa, on the railway, about 10 miles from Opua, with a deep water wharf at which any liner cah lie safely at any stage of the tide. These works were designed to (handle stock, from all parts of the northern peninsula, in the most economical maimer possible. They were opened in. December, 1921, and comprise one of the most up-to-date works in the Dominion. The daily killing capacity is 200 head of cattle or 2000 sheep with all necessary departments for the treatment of by-products such as fellmongery of wool, curing pelts and the manufacture of tallow and fertilisers. During a season about 150 hands are employed and the wages bill, last season, totalled £16,000. The quantity of stock killed last season was; Cattle 3397; sheep 14,216; lambs 51,905; calves 458 and pigs 1106. ,

These figures show a considerable increase on the previous year and it is confidently expected that, TnSlPSve long, the full capacity of the works will be required to deal with the stock produced in the North —the-fat lamb trade, especially, showing great promise.
