Race drivers building new cars for the 1927 campaign must not put the gasoline tanks under the cowl, according to a ruling handed down by the sanction board of the International Motor Contest Association. In specifying the safety rules that must be observed, officials point out that many deaths have been caused when tanks under cowls have exploded, throwing the flaming contents over the driver. The rear of the machine is recommended as the best and safest location for the petrol supply.
