FUEL FOR HOSPITAL

NO REDUCTION IN CHARGE. The secretary of the Whangarei Hospital Board wrote to the Whangarei Harbour Board yesterday asking whether the board would amend its account for 120 tons of mangrove wood to 110 tons. The Harbour Board had paid the wood-cutters for 120 tons at 4s per ton, on the board's measurement, and that quantity had been sold to the Hospital Board for 5s per ton. The matter had been thoroughly gone into, said Mr •!. E'. Holmes, and a considerable reduction in the quantity had been made. An offei; had been made to sell at 7s 6d per ton, but the Hospital Boar! had offered 5a and that had been accepted. He moved that no allowance be made. , As a member of both bodied, Mr Hoaking Seconded the motion, as the timber tTsm beautifully slacked in the yard at the institution, ahd it Was of practically the same quality as if ,it had been tea-ttee. He considered that the Harbour Board had ioll it fbr too cheaply at 5s per ton. The motion was carried.
