THE WHANGARURU ACCIDENT,

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Kindly permit me, through the medium of your widely circulating paper, to correct the impression conveyed by Mr McGee’s reported statements as contained in your account of the motor accident on March 9. In the first place the collision occurred at 5.30 p.m., not at 4.45 p.m. as stated. The ambulance was called at 5.55 af the Helena Bay P. 0., so, allowing for time lost in changing a wheel, testing the steering mechanism, procuring a horse, and riding one and a half miles to the P. 0., no time was lost in procuring assistance, the urgency of Pere’s case being very manifest. At this juncture it would be interesting to ascertain the reason why the injured nnan was only nine miles from the scone of the accident at 5.30 j?.m., when the accident occurred at 10 a.m., and when doctor or ambulance could be called from a post office in the immediate vicinity. After administering stimulants to the injured, and making them as comfortable as possible, Mrs Le Clerc hurried home to prepare refreshments for the occupants of Mr McGee’s car, which were taken up immediately. One gentleman of our party stayed with the injured people until the arrival of the ambulance at 9 p.m,, doing everything possible for their comfort. I will not trespass further on your valuable space. Thanking you, I am, etc.,

B. C. LE CLERC,
