i MAKING BATH SALTS AT HOME

In this luxurious age wo have all grown accustomed to the regular use of bath salts. They arc quite easy to make at home, and will form dolighttul i gifts if packed in decorative bottles, j A large quantity should be prepared i at once, and two pounds of soda- ' bicarbonate crystals, an ounce of oil of rose, lavender, crystals, an ounce of oil

of rose, lavender, violets, or geranium, and a little colouring will not be found too much for tho initial experiment. Old bath salts bottles may be used il they are large enough, but to make the ! whole quantity in one vessel it is much better to use a three-pound jam jar ■ and divide tho crystals up to fill the i prettier bottles later, j Put an inch layer of the soda cryj tals into the jar and sprinkle with half ! a teaspoonful of the perfumed oil — j lavender or geranium is good. Shako j until the crystals are. all saturated, and ! then leave for twenty-four hours. Add another layer of the crystals, sprinkle 1 again with oil and leave; repeat this I process until the jar is full. Tie down ! very tightly to that all air is exclud--1 ed and put the jar away in a cool place j for a month. Any vegetable colouring matter may be used for tinting.
