A large number of people at Fremantle inspected the Kybra, the new State motor ship, which will replace the Encia on (he run to southern ports. Addressing those present, (lie Minister in Charge of State Shipping (Mr. J. M. Drew) said that the purchase of the Kangaroo in 1915 was a gold experiment, because Diesel-engined vessels were then practically Unknown. The experience of the State Shipping Service with the Kangaroo, however, had proved that the Government had made no mistake. The purchase price of the Kangaroo had been £l-10,000,1 and during the war period the vessel had made a profit of £2.1.1,000, which amount had boon taken into the Consolidated Revenue. The Kangaroo I had been a big factor in the efforts [ made to open up trade between Wes-1 tern Australia and Java and Singapore. In addition to the Kybra, the ( fleet of State steamers would soon | comprise the Koolinda, a much larger and speedier motor vessel, which was to replace the Bambra. . j
