A CAUSE OF TROUBLE.

i j OLD AND LEAKY TUBEB. Motorists should be very careful (with tlieir tubes, for a new tyro is [often damaged by using a tube that is leaky or aged. It is a -wise -policy to always fit a new tube with a new ■tyre. Tubes are frequently destroyed jthrougk careless fitting, such as being [pinched between the head, which causes the tube to blow out in a very (short distance. A tube is also sometimes pinched through the tyre being insufficiently inflated, which causes |fche head to move from its correct position, and. the tube slipping underneath is then pinched. Projecting Spokes will also pinch a tube. I In fitting tubes always inflate a

little air, which will eliminate the risk of nipping the tube with a lover. It is a good practice to run the lingers around each side of the bead and see that the tube is clear.

Sometimes a tube is pinched through a break in the casing. Repair the tyre at once by vulcanising an inside sleeve over the break. Do not use loose sleeves, which will further injure the casing of the tyre.

Always keep the valve lock nut screwed bard against the rim, which will avoid the risk of the tube moving and possibly pulling out the valve. See that the valve stem is in a perfectly straight position when fitting. Never fit a tube hastily. It is better to be sure that it is fitted right than have to stop a few yards further on and find it is wrong.
