Private cabled advice has been received of the arrival in London of the Hon. W. Pember Beeves, who recently visited the Dominion. Mr Dunford, manager of the Bank of New Zealand, Suva, is to succeed Mr Eaine, manager of the Bank of New Zealand, at Wanganui Mr. E. P. Neale, of the Government Statistician’s Office, Wellington, has been appointed secretary of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce out of 97 applicants. The Crown Prince and Princess of Sweden, who are touring the States, visited Mr Thomas A. Edison, the noted inventor, at his laboratories near New York, this week.
Mr L. J. Brake, president of the Northland Trotting Club, was appointed last evening to represent that body at the annual Trotting Conference to take place in Wellingtonon July 7.
Mr W. Michael, leader-writer for the “Dominion,” Wellington, has been appointed to the position of editor of the Wairarapa “Age,” rendered vacant by the resignation of Dr. G. H. Seholefleld.
Messrs J. D. McKenzie and E, G. Hosking, members • of the Whangarei Harbour Board, and Mr J. McKinnon, secretary, returned from Whananaki yesterday and did not attend the ceremony today in : connection with the opening of the new; wharf at Whangaruru. .
A Wellington message says that Captain L..OM. Isitt left by the lonic to be attached to the Air Ministry at Home for 18 months. He will undergo courses of instruction and on his return to New Zealand will be appointed to command of the air staion at Auckland.
The Eev. T. E. B. Woolloxall, Methodist minister of Whangarei, who- has been in ill-health for some considerable time past, has become an inmate of the Whangarei Public Hospital, where it is expected he will be confined for several months. Arrangements are being made for - a clergyman from Auckland to conduct Mr Woolloxall’s pastoral duties during his enforced absence.
