THE PLUNKET SHIELD. .AUCKLAND V. WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, This Day. 'The final match to determine whether Auckland or Wellington shall hold the H-Sunkst Shield for the season commenced on the Basin Reserve yesterday aa ;perfect weather. Wellington had good fortune with the toss, and Bad ifirst use of the Napier soil wicket, which played very truly. The home mAe {took advantage of their oppor- . turiity by running up a score of 384 f#r -s'ix wickets. A feature of the day"s play was the sound defensive innings -of 175 by Kortlang, who was at {the Wickets for 326 minutes, never giving a chance. The brightest batting of the day was that of Dempster, who shaped like a player, of class, hitting up 62. Collins (45) and Hiddleston (34) also contributed useful scores. The Auckland bowling -was steady rather than difficult, but at no stage of the. , innings could it be said to have been ! collared. The details are as follows: f r WELLINGTON. ! i
