THE WEATHER
COOL AND CHANGEABLE
The Government Meteorologist reports the following weather forecast for the 24 hours from 9 a.m. today:
Southerly winds, moderate to strong. The weather probably will be cool and changeable. The barometer has a rising tendency. The tides will be good and the sea moderate.
Today the scarifying of a section of Rust Lane was carried out under supervision of the acting Borough engineer, Mr J. Archer. The work is preliminary to surfacing of the roadway full width. Footpaths will also be made, part of the distance on the northern side, and the remainder to the bridge site on the southern.
"The general idea is to put a little sunshine into the lives of those children in Whangarei not likely to get as much, sunshine at Christmas time as some of the others," said Rotarian D. W. Jack, chairman at the Whangarei Rotary Club's luncheon today. He was answering a query by a member regarding what it was intended to do with the "Sunshine Box" funds. The proposal that a Christmas tree be provided for the children at the *Y.M.C.A. on Tuesday, 22nd hist., at 6 p.m. was referred to a committee to made arrangements.
