ME. RODERICK McGREGOR.

RESULT OF LAUNCH FIRE

The death occurred in the Whangarei Hospital a few minutes after two o 'clock today of Mr. Roderick McGregor, who was poisoned by fumes when using a chemical' extinguisher to put out a fire on the launch Karoro on. Wednesday night off Manganese Point. Deceased was rendered unconscious, after his prompt action had averted what could not have ended other than in a catastrophe involving the twelve passengers aboard the launch. Had the fire got beyond control the heavy seas would have prevented any of those aboard, including three ladies and two children, reaching the shoro alive. Mr. McGregor was landed at MeLeod's Bay and taken to Mr. L. Hartnett's home for the night, and yesterday he was brought to Whangarei and admitted to the hospital last eveningin a vtery serious condition.

Deceased, •wfra was 28 years of age, Was a son of the late Mr. Dxmalrt McGregor, of "Whangarei Heads: He Was an unmarried member of a largefamily, of which the surviving sons are Messrs. Murdoch, Clarrie, Colin and Ken McGregor, and the daughters Mesdames Gus McKay of Wrtipu, W. Tncker of Whangarei, Clotwortliy of Kiripalcn. Road. Rod.
