ANNUAL MEETING AND SOIREE

The annual meeting of parishoners of the Whangarei Presbyterian Church was held in the Presbyterian Hall, Hunt Street, on Thursday evening, the Rev George W. Lochore presiding over a good attendance.- After the good things provided had been done full justice to the more serious business of the evening was entered upon. REPORT AND BALANCE SHEET. The reports on the various activities connected with the Church were read and the whole of ' them struck an optimistic note for the welfare of the Church. The balance sheet disclosed that the year commenced with a credit balance "of £66 9s 8d and receipts from various sources totalled £$50 19s 2d. The expei diture amounted to £903 8s -2d, leaving a credit balance of £14 0s 8d to be carried forward. The assets were set down at £9504 Os 8d and the liabilities £804 9s 9d, leaving a balance of £8690 10.s lid. The various reports with the balance sheet were adopted. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. The following were appointed a committee of management for the ensuing year:—Messrs O. F. Collins, D. A. McLean, A. Wilkin: on. W. Durham, W. J. Walker, W. Mcl.pocl, C. McKenzie, A. Ferguson, O. P. Owen, D. Y. GemmelJ, A. McPhee and A. Marshall. APPRECIATION. It was resolved that the congregagfition place on record its warmest thinks and appreciation to Mr and Mrs Lohore for their many gracious services rendered during the past year and also to congratulate Mr Lochore on his appointment «s Moderator of the Auckland Presbytery, which office he wi:s filling with conspicuous ability. It was interesting to record that it wan the first time in the history of the Auckland Presbytery that a minister of the Whangarei congregation had been, chosen for such an important office, adding, as it did, lustre to his reputation as a member of the Auckland Presbytery and conferring honour upon the congregation over which he so ably presided. Votes of thanks were also passed to the treasurei*, Mr J. N. McMinn, and other office-bearers for their work during the past year. The organist, Mr Albert Dobson, was accorded a special vote of thanks for his services

and untiring energy. HARMONY. The remainder of the' evening was devoted to song and story and a very happy time was spent. Items contributed included a Highland dance by Miss Mona. Lilley, songs by the Rev. I J. A. Martin and Mrs Burnett; recitations by the Rev. G. H. Gibb and Mr C. Burnett; glees by members of the choir and specehea by the Revs. W. A. Holloway and Gibb. The last named discoursed on "how Presbytejians appear brothers, what they are and what they ought to be." The disseitation was decidedly humorous and cvi.Ved great merriment.
