THIRD TEST TRIUMPH.

BATTEN NETS FIVE TIMES (Receved 10.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Playing at the top of their form on Saturday, the English Soccer eleven outclassed Australia in the third test at Maitland by eight goals to two. Ten thousand people were present.

Batten was unable to go wrong. Hia shooting was deadly and unerring from whistle to whistle. He scored five goals, bringing his tally to 38 for the tour. Cartwright was constantly peppered by the visitors, some of their shoss escaping his vision altogether. The local players, despite their dismal showing on paper, performed creditably under the circumstances. They were simply outclassed. Hannaford centred a corner kick conceded by Storey and Batten tipped it under the bar within a few minutes of the commencement. Simms added the second goal and Batten immediately scored again with a convincing shot which found Cartwright off his legs. Then Hannaford with a cross-kicii hit an upright, the ball rolling into the net.

The visitors, playing with great heart, "hit out" in cricket parlance and Batten, collecting a, long pass, electrified the crowd by banging the Bphere into the net. Just before the interval Lennard opened the account for Australia from a centre by McNaughton, the halftime score reading.—
