VETERAN ENTERTAINED

SEVENTY-FIVE YEARS COM-

PLETED,

Hale and vigorous, of buoyant spirit and cheerful demeanour, and in appearance well below the "allotted span," though actually five years beyond it, Mr. E. V. Fulljames was entertained last Thursday night by the "boys" of Hotel Windsor, who mustered 30 strong, on the occasion of the seventy-fifth anniversary of his birthday. The proprietor of the establishment, Mr. W. H. M. Yarrow, was voted to J the chair, and having explained the nature of the occasion, in neatlyturned phrases, presented the guest of the evening with a pocket wallet on which the following text was engraved: "To Dad, from the boys of Hotel Windsor, 1925." On behalf of the staff, Mr. Yarrow further asked Mr. Fulljames' acceptance of a set of military hairbrushes. Responding at length to the honours thus conferred upon him, Mr. Fulljames made reference to his pleasant association with the house and the guests. The remainder of the evening was harmoniously occupied in the observance of various toasts and an interspersing programme of musical items, recitations and monologues contributed by the following:—Mr. and Mrs. Archer, Messrs. Yarrow, Stout, Wright, Tarplee (Carterton), Weale, Heath, Trembath, Hill and Fulljames. Additional enjoyment was afforded by utilisation of the wireless set recenty installed at Hotel Windsor, by Mr. Shepherd, radio expert, of the firm of E. A. James, Water Street, concert and other items from Wellington and j Christchurch being distinctly audible;

The function-concluded in the vicin-. ity of midnight. : Much praise was given to the hostess, Mrs. Yarrow, in catering for the evening. The final toast of the house and staff was ably responded to by Mrs. Yarrow, who spoke in glowing terms of the maids in her employ, the sentiments being heartily and unanimously endorsed by those present.
