A Sydney cable message announces the death of ex-Judge Francis Rogers, at the age of 84 years.
Mrs D. W. McLean, an Auckland lady whose husband is well known in Whangarei as a travelling representative for prominent Auckland firms, lately passed through Los Angeles on her way to England. She visited Hollywood and was there entertained by Mary Pickford and her husband, Douglas Fairbanks, at their beautiful home. Mrs McLean saw the "world's sweetheart" making a scene in her latest picture, "Little Annie Rooney," and found it a very amusing experience, watching things fioin "behind the scenes." The two stars were both interested to hear all about the scenic marvels and thermal wonders of New Zealand and announced their intention of visiting the Dominion as soon as the business of making pictures — and incidentally dollars —permits. Mrs McLean is a sister of Mr E. F. Luks, of the Lyceum Theatre, Whangarei.
