FARMERS' UNION EXECUTIVE
ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Mr E. S. MacKenzie, of Otonga, was re-elected president of the WhaKgarci sub-provincial executive of the X.Z. Farmers' TJnion at the annual meeting held this week. Mr J. Peat was re-elected vice-president. Mr MacKenzie was nominated by Mr G. S. B. Morrison, of Maungatapere, who said that it had been customary to retain presidents for two years in office, so that the Union in the second year got the benefit of the experience they had gained in the first year. When seconding the nomination Mr E. Babe, of Waikiekie, expressed the hope that in future Mr MacKenzie would be accorded the respect which a president should receive and would occupy -the chair at all functions held by the Union at which he was present. Messrs G. A. Storrar and F. L. Gunn were re-elected treasurer and auditor respectively, and Messrs A. C. M. Finlayson, J. Howie and G. S. B. Morrison were elected to the Stand ing Committee. Acknowledgment was made by the officers elected, a vote of thanks was accorded those in office last year, and on Mr A. C. MeCardle's initiative a vote of appreciation of the work of the president during the past year,, and of the energy, and time, ho had spent in the interests of the Union to say nothing of his personal expenses was carried by applause.
