TOWN BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The regular monthly meeting of the Hikurangi Town Board was held on Tuesday night. Present—Messrs C. Cherrief chairman), R. Lomas, F. McBeth, J. Dobson, J". H. Smith and the town clerk. CHEQUE PAYMENT STOPPED. The Municipal Association wrote notifying, the loss of a cheque and asking for payment to tie stopped. The clerk reported having done so immediately on receipt of the notice. MOTOR VEHICLES ACT. The Whangarei County Council forwarded the reply of the Minister of Internal Affairs concerning an applition made by the Council to have the Motor Vehicles Act amended to enable all local bodies to collect fees from, all vehicles plying for hire or used for commercial purposes in their district. It was agreed on the motion of Messrs Dobson and Mcßeth: "That this Board support the County and that: the town clerk confer with the clerks of the County and Borough Councils to forvrard the necessary requests to Parliament. VIEW ROAD GRANT. Mr. Allan Bell, M.P., advised that he had interviewed the Minister of Public Works. and enclosed Mr Coates' reply to the effect that the application for a grant , for View Road would have full consideration and & reply would be sent on later. ABATTOIR AREA. The Whangarei Borough. Council wrote re Hikurangi joining Whangarei in the abattoir area of the latter body, together with other adjacent districts.

■ It was agreed, on the motion of Messrs iCherrie and Dobson: "That the train and other conditions completely precluded our being included in the Wh&ngarei abattoir district." RECREATION RESERVE. Messrs Rishworth and Harrison forwarded the necessary deeds for completion of purchase of the recreation reserve and transfer of the roadway to Mr J. Croft. It was agreed, on the motion of Messrs Smith and Mcßeth, the Board meet on Friday evening to peruse and complete the deeds. Mr H. Jackson offered" to lease the part of the recreation reserve recently acquired from Mir Croft. - The matter.wai referred to the Parks Committee to des! with. BUILDING PERMITS. It was agreed, on the motion of Messrs Dobson and Smith that in future all additions exceeding the valut* of £50 shall be subject tot the permit fee. A permit was granted to Mr B. 3. Bardie for an addition -to his shop and dwelling in King Street. f. Applications from Messrs Twizell and Hardie to erect shops and dwellings in Union Street and King Street were referred to the Works Committee. An application to put in a flush lavatory and septic tank was declined. FOOTBALL GATE-TAKINGS. Mr Orr, secretary of the Hikurangi Soccer Football Club, waited on the Board concerning the apportionment of gate moneys accruing from football matches.

The Board unanimously resolved that when two matches are played on the same day the clubs must divide the takings equally. ' RATING DISCRIMINATION. Messrs Snowden and Croft waited on the Board concerning the high rating values of land within the town used only for farming purposes, and asked the Board to endeavour to grant some relief, following perhaps on the lines taken up by Tauranga Borough Council, to have an Act of Parliament passed enabling' local bodies to discriminate in such valuations. It was agreed, on the motion of Messrs Dobson and Cherrie: "That this Board support the Tauranga Council in asking Parliament to allow of relief in such cases as are quoted and now under consideration by other local bodies.'' PROPERTY FRONTAGE. It Was agreed, on the motion of Messrs Lomas and Cherrie: "That as the small corner on- the northern por tion of the land set apart for a scenic reserve is of no intrinsic value or way to the reserve, this Board recommends the Government to si'll sufficient of th? same so as to give Messrs Crazier.
