MISERY ENDED
EXIT FROM LIFE. A FATHER'S SUICIDE. Son procuresrevolver. (Received 9 a.m.) .SYDNEY, Th'is Day. A young man named David Winckler was charged with murdering his father, Franz Winckler, at Wentworthville. The evidence showed that the father was a hopeless invalid and several times had asked his son to buy him a revolver to enable him to end his suffering. The son finally purchased a revolver and when his mother and the rest of the family had retired he gave it to his father and went to another part of the house. He heard a report and returned to his father's room, where he found him dead with' a bullet in the head. The jury returned a verdict of guilty as an accessory before the fact, with a strong recommendation to mercy, besides suggesting that accused be given the benefits of the First Offenders Act. The Judge recorded sentence of death. The evidence showed that father and son had been on most affectionate terms.—A. and N.Z.
