SETTLEMENT EFFORTS CONFERENCE WITH OWNERS. CONCERNING GUARANTEE CLAUSE. (Received 9.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. . A full crew for the Esperance Bay has' signed on. The Premier, Mr G. T. Lang, is conferring. with the unions concerned in the Mort's Dock lockout in an effort to' settle the. dispute. The transport group is also considering the matter. The Union Steamship Company defied ,tjhe*. statement that the company would insert a guarantee clause in the articles, stating that the matter would be dealt with by the Steamship Owners' Association.

The Association met in Melbourne and debated the action, of the Commonwealth Line in agreeing to a settlement after allegedly first drawing private owners into the fight in the joint action for the Seamen's Union's deregistration. It was not expected that a decision would be reached today. The Disputes Committee of the Transport Unions group, together with delegates from the Federated Marine Unions, with the Minister of Labour conferred in an effort to settle the Mort's Dock dispute. It was decided to send a delegation to Mr Lang today with a view to securing a conference with the management. Both sides state that they are- hopeful of a settlement. A deputation consisting of representatives of the unions and the Trades Hall Council is proceeding to Melbourne with the object of conferring with the Commonwealth Steamship Owners' Association with a view to securing the Association as party to an agreement between the Commonwealth Line and the Transport Unions group.—A. and N.Z. 1 GENERAL TIE-UP. INTERSTATE VESSELS. (Received 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. A mass meeting of Victorian seamen endorsed the resolution carried by the Sydney branch union to tie up all interstate vessels on July 14. It also resolved that every effort should be made to harass the Government should it attempt to deport any unionist. A protest was made against the sentence of imprisonment on Noel Lyons in New Zealand and the executive of .the Union was given power to take steps to have him released. —A. and N.Z. - • '
